I met the author in a restaurant and during a casual conversation, I learned that she had recently penned this book. After she told me what it was about, I knew that it would be a perfect read for my youngest grandchildren. When I got home, I promptly ordered three copies. Of course, when they arrived at my house, I had to read one of them first. To my delight, I found them to be beautifully written, with stunning visuals! Most importantly, the message of the story was wholesome, and informative. Well done, Mrs Daniels. My grandchildren (and I) look forward to your next piece of work!
Children live in a world today where differences are criticized and even attacked. This book, The DP Kids, celebrates and appreciates the myriad ways that humans are different by examining those differences through the eyes of a group of neighborhood children. In their school and play experiences the children in the book talk to each other about family situations like adoption and the death of a parent, as well as meeting and helping newcomers of varied backgrounds. The children also share that prayer and God's Word can help them understand the diverse people that they encounter. Colorful illustrations accent the story.
This book provides a way to begin discussion around complex ideas that our children are facing. I would use it with my Sunday School students, ages 8-10.
